A general history of motoring by St. John C. Nixon, author also of The Invention of the Automobile, with a preface by Sir Arthur Stanley G.C.B., C.B. The frontispiece carries an ink autograph signature of Frederick R. Simms — founder of the RAC, first president of the SMMT, and the man who introduced the Daimler engine to Britain — written beneath his portrait. As Simms is not the book's author, the manner of signing (presentation or association copy) is unknown, but his historical standing makes this a copy of considerable interest to collectors of early British motoring.
